Dental Bridges

What is a Dental Bridge?

A fixed dental bridge is meant to replace an area of the mouth that’s missing a tooth. If you’re not eligible for a dental implant, we can put a bridge in place. Bridges are made using sturdy, durable materials that look just like your natural teeth. They’re a long-term solution for helping you regain the confidence and functionality of your smile.

Why are Dental Bridges necessary?

The most common reason for needing a bridge is because you’re missing one or more teeth. The bridge will sit comfortably on top of the two surrounding teeth. The middle part of the bridge simply rests on the gums and gives the appearance that you have a tooth in its place. Bridges can last for years and even several decades with good oral hygiene and care.

Who's a candidate for Dental Bridges?

Bridges are ideal for individuals who aren’t good candidates for dental implants. The procedure requires no incisions or surgery, so it’s suitable for those people who cannot undergo a surgical procedure. We will examine your teeth and mouth to determine if a fixed bridge is needed. The majority of patients coming into our practice who need a bridge can have the procedure done easily.

What occurs during the procedure for Dental Bridges?

To make the procedure more comfortable for you, we’ll administer a local anesthetic to the area. The two surrounding teeth will be filed down to create stable foundations for the new bridge. Molds, or impressions, are taken of your teeth so that we can carefully craft both a temporary and a permanent fixed bridge. You will need to come in for a second appointment where we’ll remove the temporary restoration and place the permanent one. Slight adjusting is needed to improve the fit and feel of the new bridge and you’ll be able to go home enjoying your new, fuller smile.
