What is Teeth Whitening?

Professional whitening can remove years worth of stains and deep discoloration from your teeth. We use the Zoom whitening system in our office for quick, brilliant results. Zoom is done in under an hour and patients can experience results that are about eight to 10 shades lighter than when they first came into the office. Whitening can be utilized as a way to improve your smile for confidence reasons or before a big event.

Why is Teeth Whitening necessary?

Certain factors can contribute to the staining and discoloration of your teeth. For example, people who smoke, chew tobacco, drink a lot of coffee and tea as well as eat staining foods are more likely to have yellowed and dull smiles. Likewise, just the act of aging can contribute to the way that your smile looks. You may want to whiten your teeth before having other restorations placed or before an event like a reunion or a wedding.

Who's a candidate for Teeth Whitening?

Whitening typically only improves the appearance of natural teeth. It will have little to no effect on restorations in your mouth like veneers, crowns, fillings and fixed bridges. It’s important that you have been to see a dentist at least once in the past year in order to be eligible for professional whitening. You should commit to being able to stay in the office for about an hour while the whitening treatment is being done.

What happens during the Whitening process?

We will sit you comfortably in our office before the treatment starts. We then work to apply a whitening gel to your teeth and use special materials to keep gums protected from sensitivity. A light is then used to accelerate your results while you sit reading a book, watching television or catching up on social media. After about a half hour, we’ll remove the old gel, clean the teeth and reapply the same gel on all surfaces of the teeth. The light is replaced and the whitening process is finished in another half hour. In total, you can expect professional Zoom whitening to take roughly an hour in our office.
