Fluoride Treatments
What is a Fluoride Treatment?
If you don’t get enough fluoride through your drinking water or from the types of dental products you’re using, we may suggest having additional fluoride treatments. These treatments are done within minutes in our office and a complement to other preventative care steps you can take to keep your teeth healthy and clean. Fluoride treatments are often recommended for pediatric patients as a way to prevent cavities, but they can be just as beneficial to adults. Fluoride can help in the prevention of tooth decay, which in turn prevents the need for fillings, extractions and root canals.
Why are Fluoride Treatments necessary?
Fluoride treatments can be requested at any time during your appointment with us. You may require or want treatment if you want to further protect your teeth against decay. If you don’t have fluoridated water at home or if you don’t use dental products that contain fluoride, it’s a good idea to have these treatments done as needed. Fluoride is safe for your teeth and has no ill effects on your health.
What occurs during Fluoride Treatments?
We will sit you comfortably in our office and begin the treatment needed. Fluoride is brushed onto the teeth so that it can absorb and provide benefits to the tooth’s structure. We will let you know how long to avoid eating and drinking to prevent the fluoride from being washed away. You can request these treatments at any time during your treatment. They are ideal for patients of all ages and varying dental needs.
